Project365 024: Red

It is Monday and time for a new theme. You might assume that since last week was Blue that I am stuck in a rut and switching to Red for the week. That is not the intent. This week I want to focus on images that have one colour which dominates.

There is a post-processing technique called selective colour where you remove all colour except one area of interest. Although similar my goal for the week is to capture just one colour in the first place. I did an interview awhile ago with a photographer who had an exhibit with a selective colour theme.

There is very little that is in focus in this image. My intention was to draw even more attention to the red since it was the only thing in focus. This very shallow depth of field is created by using a wide open aperture, which for this lens is f/1.4. The effect is further enhanced by using an extension tube.

Have you ever heard of B & H? Ironically those two letters are somewhat in focus in this image and also a great place from which to buy photo gear - especially in person if you ever visit Manhattan.
