Project365 304: Copper and Cobalt

This week I am going to explore the reinterpretation of other people's art.

This is a portion of the a sculpture behind Osgoode Hall by sculptor Maryon Kantaroff. . The processing is an HDR style, but I shifted white balance of the source images to emphasize the cold and blue tones.

Project365 303: Horse Fence

I was out driving around trying to find the light as it quickly faded away. The clouds opened up and there was a fence with the lines I needed.

Project365 301: Union Station from the Skywalk

All roads may lead to Rome, but it seems that all lines lead to Union Station! I have had this on my shot list for some time as I wanted to get the image of the 'train shed' before the major renovations they have planned. You can see the construction site is setup on the right. You can also see the green 'wrap' around the main station on the left.

Project365 298: Blue

This image worked out better than I imagined. There are lines going in three different directions and they make a cool transition from the grid to the vertical dashes.

Project365 297: Floored

This week I am on the hunt for lines. To start with I am thinking about it in a geometric sense. I wonder where else I can take it?

Project365 296: The Two Towers

A nice day for a little walk around one of the larger churches in my area, The Cathedral of the Transfiguration. I have never been inside, and it currently isn't in active use.

You might recall I also took a picture of this same building back on day 37.

Project365 295: The Granary

All week long I took pictures of the big buildings in downtown Toronto. But now it it the weekend, so where does one find a big building in suburbia? I took a short drive to the old family farm and made some images of the grain handling facility. The green tower on the right lifts the grain high up

Project365 294: The Royal York

The Farimount Royal York used to be the tallest building in Toronto and the largest hotel in the Commonwealth. Although only 28 floors tall its footprint is large and it is dominant in the block. This image only shows one corner of the building. I choose a vintage process for the image; it seemed to suit the 82 year old building.

I am also glad that the Farimount company decided to keep "Royal York" as part of the name. I feel it adds character and preserves history.

Did you know that there is a garden on the roof? I work in the building next door and can look down at the rooftop garden where the chefs all dressed in their whites tend to the garden and collect fresh herbs. I didn't know until I read the wikipedia article that there is also an apiary on the roof as well. I'll have to go look for it.

Project365 293: Vertigo

This is one corner of a large building; Canada's largest soft seat theatre. I spotted this the other day when I was out scouting and felt that it loomed over me. Not the biggest building around but rather bold.

Project365 290: Look Up, Waaay Up

A lot of noise this week in the popular media about big bad business, But I don't want to talk about that. Instead I want to focus on big buildings (or other man made structures).

This image is a composite from six frames. Three for the lower section taken at -2, 0 and +2 Exposure compensation and likewise for the upper three. Those two sets of three were then tonemapped via HDR Efex Pro. The resulting two images were then stictch using Microsoft's free ICE program.

The black building on the left is the Royal Trust Tower and the one on the right is the TD Tower. Both are part of the TD Centre  They were designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

The red building in the centre is the Scotia Bank Tower. and the beige building below it is Bank of Nova Scotia building.

Project365 288: The Red Door

Went for a little drive looking for today's door. I was hoping to find something old. This one was pretty much what I was looking for. Applied a little HDR magic to pull in the stormy sky.

Every time I see this door I can't help but think of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. The style of the artwork is similar to the cover illustration of the book I read.

It is a good book by the way and I am sure the see the movie.

Project365 285: Big Entrance - Small Door

As I was out scouting for today's "Door", I realized something about the old bank buildings in the Financial District. They all have these very grand entrances with small, in comparison, doorways. This is one paticular example from the CIBC building
