For today, I thought I would get a close-up of an eye. My original intent was to get a crisp image of the an eye's iris.
A few things I learned in trying to do this. It takes longer than planned, it is harder that it looks, you can't do it while your victim is trying to do something else. This is what I ended up with. The eye lashes are relatively sharp but the iris is way more blurry than I intended. I tired a straight on shot, but one side effect of that was I could see myself in the reflection.
1/4 f/7.1 ISO 800 EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM @ 195 mm Canon EOS 40D with 500D closeup lens
