Swan Song

I think this will be my last bird post for awhile. SO to end things off, a double Swan post. The solo bird was nice an close at Mill Pond.

Blue Thighs

"I was blue, just as blue as I could be". Ok - so that was corny. This beauty is a resident in the Nigara Falls Aviary. I believe this is the same one whoose headshot I posted before. Photographically, I wish the rope was not so bright. There is not much I can do with it without heavy duty photoshop. RAW would have helped, but this was BR "before RAW", for me.

Born to Run

I had the privilege of an invitation to a horse farm on Bloomington. This little foal is about a week or two old and knows how to get all fours of the ground already. Perhaps one day he or she will be running at Woodbine. Thanks to Amy, Viv, and Klaus.

This Dude has Attitude

I wonder how long it takes him to get his hair done in the morning?

Orange and Black

Unfortunately this bird is not in my field guide, so I can't tell you what it is.
Photographically, It is not the best picture. It is on the soft side. It was shot with my 75-300 which is consumer grade glass. It was hand-held, because I didn't bother to take even my monopod. f/8 isn't a bad choice for aperture but the other factors were against me. ISO 400 was about as high as I could go with the Rebel and have decent noise.
I think it could have been a great shot. Oh well.

Seagull at Sunset

For this picture I wanted to emphasize the red streak from the setting sun, so I choose the tall format.

Blue and Gold

The colours on this Blue-and-Gold Macaw were stunning. This was made at the aviary at Niagara Falls, which is a great place to practice bird pictures. You'll want fast glass. A 70-200 f/2.8 would be a great choice. Although some of them can be quite close, so a 50 f/1.4 or a 24-70 f/2.8 would be good to have as well.
